I went to a NAM open call and ended up doing the pageant. It was fun. The questions I was asked at my open call were "If you could change one rule at your school, what would it be?" and "Describe yourself with three words."

But if I was asked the question you posted here, I'd probably say something like "I would like to be queen for my state because it would give me a bigger voice, more of an opportunity to speak up for things that are important to me, and be heard."

Of course, your answer should be your answer. But I'd say it is a good thing to talk about what the title could help you accomplish, rather than surfacy or hollow stuff like "Because I'd like to win the $1,000 cash and go to nationals at disneyland" or "Because I am the best" or "world peace."

BTW, I called and found out what you need in order to get accepted into the pageant. They are looking for a B or better grade average, and they want to see that you are involved in some activities that show you are involved and making things happen. School, community, work, volunteering, whatevs. Since it is not a 'beauty" pageant, they do not want to know your measurements, eye color, or any of that. It is about communication and who you are.

I hope it works out for you. I was in NAM and it really was a great experience for me. Especially because I was kind of shy before.

I had received an invitation to the missouri state pageant and was considering it for the the college scholarship offer mentioned in the invitation for contestants who get into the national pageant, but then i read the opinions and facts posted on www.national-american-miss-scam.com/, the exspenses is what made me realize it's not worth considering. I know my family cant afford it. Plus the prize money, if you take into consideration the amount spent, is close to nothing.

It's the typical cattle calls, extra fees, sponsor cliques that's so prevalent is natural pageant systems. About the same as glitz pageants

the pagent has been banned in areas, has many complaints, and that the organizer has changed the name of the company many times in the past to avoid lawsuits.

Is it a Scam? In my opinion if comes very close, but I am not sure it crosses the line and falls into the Scam category. First, I would like to say what NAM does do "right" and it does do some things right IMO, if you win (and my daughter has won in the past) you are paid right on the spot (can not say the same for other pageants we have done). Also, for the most part NAM does seem to attract a nice bunch of girls and parents. My daughter did have fun competing in this system, and we both made many friends....if you hear a BUT coming...well...you are very right. I think the reason NAM likes to claim it has been in business for 28 years (while the BBB only has records since 2002) is because the founders of NAM used to work for another pageant called America Co-ed, but they broke off and formed NAM. We have done NAM state & Nationals many times but have decided this is not something we will continue to do, it is impossible to see all the flaws the first time, but they are certainly there if you look, in my opinion. Yes, NAM is a business, and they are in business to make money. I do not have an issue with a good company making a profit, but NAM cuts so many corners (again, just my opinion) to pad their profit that I just think it is terrible. For example, sometimes NAM staff will be judges or the spouse of a NAM staff will judge or you will see the same, same, same judges each and every year...hummm. I just have to question is the judging fair, impartial and honest, and I just do not know. It also seems like some of the well known coaches in this system may be a little too friendly with some of the NAM staff and sometimes is does appear if the girls coached by these people often place very well. I would just like to add, I do not want to burst anyone's bubble that feels special for making it though an "open call" but IMO that is another tactic NAM uses to make people believe this is a selective pageant... NAM staffers are smart cookies, their livelihood depends on it. If anyone not selected at an open call, sent NAM the $440 check to enroll....my guess is they would suddenly be accepted!

Look into-one of NAM’s biggest corporate sponsors of their national pageant is the National Honor Roll-just google them and see what you find out! It’s another scam to obtain school children’s personal information that is sold to 3rd parties.

What I dont get is if this pageant has been around for "28 years" then why hasn't the directors had this competition televised at least as a documentary like Toddlers and Tiaras. Promote it in a way where not every pageant is about big hair, tons of make up, and glitzy dresses. Why not promote grades and scholarships?

Why NAM isn't on television IMO. They haven't been around for 28 years. 2002 They broke off from MAC and it isn't televised because it sucks

Danielle Kaczanowski Miss Teen Illinois 2015 for MAC lied in her intro and Patty Hawkins has endorsed the cheating and lying. Many people are upset. http://youtu.be/rMtqpSD79qA

There needs to be class action lawsuits for fraud!

The only type who participate are dupes and people doing favors such as working for the director for free.

I believe that Patty Hawkins should be sued by all families in a class action lawsuit. To allow cheating to go on for years is appalling and shameful. One complaint after another. If you are a parent that gave her money contact an attorney. If you haven't done MAC consider yourself lucky and don't!
