Subject: Emus have arrived

Well, out of the 4 eggs I purchased, I have 3 Emu chicks! Very interesting and different experience when it comes to hatching. As of Saturday night around midnight, I could still hear chicks in 3 of the eggs as I had been all week, and yet there were no cracks in the shells yet. I woke up on Sunday morning and one Emu chick was there in the incubator and the other 2 of the 3 eggs had HUGE holes in them. I could see the chicks were a tad dry around those openings in the shell so I grabbed the top end of the shell with my thumb and popped the top part of the eggshell off and both chicks wiggled out and the membrane was just BARELY dry enough to start to stick but it came off with ease and the timing was perfect as both chicks were ready to come on out. All 3 are fine so far so today should be the test to see if they are interested in food and water at all and get them up and running around. The 4th egg is still in the bator, but I doubt anything will happen with it.
They are certainly some big chicks, very tall. So day 51 was the correct timeline just as the chart said that the breeder had sent to me. Incubation temp was set at 97.5 degrees F and held steady all the way through.
This should be a great experience, can't wait until I actually have Emu chicks from my own Emus.
