Hi Alan.

I have been searching for stuff on the Werrington/Riverside for a while. I finally stumbled on your thread in VoyForums. It's pretty much the only reference I can find.

I wanted to find pictures of the Big House, I was only 13 when I was there for 18 months around 1972ish but I remember it to be impressive and can still see parts of it clearly, you don't forget when you've bumpered the tile floors so many times. From memory it was owned by the Percival family who made their fortune in the slave trade but that has been a fruitless avenue of search.

I'm impressed that you remembered some names like Mr Hilditch, I didn't remember but it brought back memories he had a false leg. I was in the Army Cadets too but couldn't remember Mr Glynn's name is he the same man who wore a majors rank and always went on about hot sweet tea. He taught us the Lee Enfield .303 and the Bren. He took us River crossing on ropes all very wet and amateur but he might be the reason why I joined the army later on.

I still haven't been able to find any pictures but the reply you got from Andrew Carter above says its now the Doveleys Garden Centre ST14 5BZ I looked on Google maps and think I recognise parts from the air like the Gym and the swimming pool which looks like it has trees growing in it the rest looks very different if it is the school.

I hope you get this but you posted in 2008 maybe your emails changed. Did you find out any more or have links to any pictures of the school. I had dreams of buying the place if I had lotto win but it looks like it has been changed radically.

Jimi
