I had a miserable couple of months at Ardale in the summer of 1963.
Don't remember much detail, did a lot of schoolwork (and got a RSA Cert), slept in a converted dormitory with partitions to make single 'rooms'.
Still have a scar on my chest from falling onto the spiked end of a fire door pushbar.
Worst bit about it was that a trio of 'daddies' who were tough when together gave me a bad time (and a broken tooth).
Don't remember any names just that one was from Neath.
After two months or so, can't be sure how long, I was given home leave and went to my sister for a week. On the return journey I decided "Fuck that, I aint going back" and headed of to the south coast.
After a few escapades I ended up at Rochester Borstal but that's another story.
