Hi you old boys
Me names Mike Roberts 1093 St David under Jock Anderson spent 3 years in 1953/6.
I have contacted only 2 old boys from the 300 lads sentenced when I was there.
After 70 years there ant many of us about.

My sentence was 3 years in need of care and protection.
I finished off me 6 month Schooling under Mr. Wilson then started working on the farm with Mrs. Webster the farm bailiff wife, and placed in charge of the pig house.
I got myself into trouble with a dumb insolence charge with Jock Anderson and old Mr. Brewer (old slap head) and braking windows under the new dept bailiff Mr. Borlace? (Another story) I ended up with 6 of the best-- up-stares in the big hall in front of everybody.
I then got sent to work on the Gardens under Mr. Blackburn head gardener and Mr. Green
Punishment was hard work in all weathers

5 of us went back Sept this year (reunion) some very emotional moments memories came flooding back. We still have not had the mischief completely kick out of us we all raided the apple orchard.
Met an old boy Bill Preston and Beryl his wife in Essex last week end had a long chat over a beer and will keep in touch

After the Borstals Approved schools in the early 60s was re-named by Roy Jenkins MP to Children’s Community Centers corporal punishment was supposed to cease

Anybody know heard seen… Bill Bailey from Portsmouth, Hogon from Bath

All the best mike
