I think it is unlikely that there would be any form of compensation. For a start the government didn't keep indefinite records of young people in approved schools because most of us had committed no crime.
I tried a few years ago to get something from the order of priests to which belonged a priest who regularly visited my approved school in order to "help" us, and sexually abused myself and others. I also hoped I might be helped by the nuns who ran the place. In brief, the offer I got was that they would pay for my counselling but I had to sign something to say that I would not speak about my experiences. Indeed I felt more violated after that encounter - and it took a year before I knew where I stood - than beforehand, and I wished I had never raised the subject. The joke of it is that the priest in question had been in real trouble for sexual misdemeanours, it had even got into the papers in Ireland, so I wasn't telling them anything they didn't know.
After all that I was left alone with my memories and the humilitation of having put my hand out and had it slapped. It took me a long time to get over that.
The Approved School regime was a harsh one.
