Whether the medical methods of this doctor were appropriate of not, is not so easy to say without knowing a lot more details. But I think there is some more to this case than the things focused in the court, having to do with much more than what this particular man did, and to what generally happens in sport organizations, and that is:

Young people attending clubs and organizations with the aim of becoming sport champions, are subjected to training methods body manipulations and psychological conditionings that result in a few reaching the level of top championship, but with many getting wrecked in all ways, while the bosses, companies and organizations make a gross profit.

Among those manipulations are medication to modify the growth and pubertal development, surgeries in body areas, and especially the pelvic area and systematic brainwas-methods.

Also young people attending such sport clubs are extensively used as medical and psychological guinea pigs and as source for tissues to be used in research and for treatment of rich patients.

The kind of examinations described in this case are also often done under deep sedation and general anesthesia, partly because the staff are afraid of being accused for abuse, but equally much to shield that the boy or girl is used as guinea pigs in medical research, and by economical compensation to the club and the bosses.

This man has probably misconducted, Larry Nassar, but his particular kind of misconduct have been overfocused to turn peoples attention away from those other things.
