For Sox fans, nothing beats an in-yur-face to the north side team. Stopming the cards not only would allow the Sox to boast of winning the World Series but also would be a final slap to the Cubs, who weren't good enough to finish ahead of their most hated rivals. And dont forget, Tony La Russa is not only a former Sox manager but once scored a run as a Cub as well.
The Astros were the 2nd best team in the NL-central, which means they beat out the north siders. So wouldnt it be sticking it to haughty Cubs fans to squish the team they couldn't overtake? You bet yur sexy ass it would! And dont forget the much publicized disdain Astros manager Phil Garner had for the Sox while managing the Brewers. Incentive enough!!!
