I first was introduce to Air Mobile Operations at Fort Benning, GA.Using HELECOPTERS, of different size. Upon my first tour to VN 1966/1967 We used the huey, To Air Assult into many LZ'S. Some Hot/Some not. But we jump in rice paddys approx 6to 10 feet.We some times had to repell in the LZ.We use CH 47 and in most cases had to use jackup ladders. The thing is the First Cav and the 101st set the stage for Air Assult. Prior to Ft Campbell, opening the Air Assult School. So I ask the same question. Why for people who served in VN prior to the Air Assult School should not have been awarded the Air Assult Badge. Especially when the solder was awarded the Air Medal for combat operations requireing Helecopter.
