Your best bet will be to trace the family using church records. There's a good book by Colin G. Calloway called The Western Abenakis of Vermont, 1600-1800, which would shed some light on the history of the Abenaki of the Mississquoi River there at Swanton. You'll need to know some history. Find the various Abenaki mailing lists and message boards on rootsweb, genforum and ancestry and post a query there. I would also watch, read, and use the boards and lists for Ouiment and other associated names in your genealogy including Abenaki.
