It's hard to tell if you will find more information or not. I believe there were many mixed blood Canadian and Indian families in Essex Co., from early times. Some were chidlren and grandchildren of individuals who had been captured during the Revolutionary and French/Indian Wars who were never ransomed. They were Catholic but, often, only a very weak way, as they had been forced to join the church during captivity sometimes.
You will want to determine relition for your native ancestors because church records may be very important to your search in Canada. I sounds like Sophia was French and so, therefore, Catholic. That's the usual thing. I don't recognize the surname, though. It looks like it's a corruption of another name but nothing comes to mind right all the top.
I would use the church records in areas where the families lived in the states to see if a marriage or baptismal record will reveal the birth parish of any of the adults in the record. Also, log onto the online message boards and mailing lists for the area(s) and post your queries there to see if you can find someone who knows more than you do about the family.
Consult later county histories to see if a profile of the family is in the biographies there. Look at deeper records, always. Land records will tell you the residenct of the buyer and seller, which might indicate a Canadian place.
Check the church records of the nearest Indian Reservation for your surnames. Look in the rootsweb message boards for similar surnames to see if you can find others who know more about the name thatn you do (Pellan, etc.).
