Like I said Oldie, it's old news. You've got at least a 3 month old article there. The idea was voted down by the State legislature back in February. It's dead in the water (pun intended). As for posting my home town you've just posted it on a board read by you, myself, and Michael C. and you guys already know the location. I've posted it here so that lets John and maybe Lige in on the secret. If those 2 gentlemen ever decide to visit historic Ashland, I hope they look me up. If you should decide to post it on your Blue Board, other than your fake characters, no one else even knows who I am, since I haven't posted there in months. You are banned from all other boards except for a couple of others sponsored by you which even you rarely post to.

Subject: Ashland residents are furious at the idea of building a lake

Ashland Lake Proposal
Idea includes building a lake where Ashland is

Ashland residents are furious at the idea of building a lake along Interstate 80 between Omaha and Lincoln.

Those behind the idea say it would solve much of Nebraska's water problems and create an economic boom at the same time.

But opponents say you can't put a price on history.

The idea includes a man-made lake along the I-80 corridor between Lincoln and Omaha where the community of Ashland is now. The vision is what building a hydroelectric dam on the Platte River could create.

"Let's put into perspective what's at state here," said former Omaha mayor Hal Daub and supporter of the new lake idea. "This isn't just about somebody who wants to water ski."

Daub points out the plan's advantages. The water source would help the shortage the state is facing. The lake would also be a recreational area, bringing jobs and tourists.

Daub floated a similar idea in 1999 and says there's something for everyone in it.

"If you can get everyone in the same room, around the same table at the same time, you can usually figure it out," Daub said.

Omaha Senator Pam Brown is hoping the first step in all this will put people at ease.

Her bill would pour $3 million into looking at all the factors and opportunities involved.

"In many of the communities that have had technical development, it's come along with man made lakes," said Brown.

But some people in Ashland say history is stronger than what the plan has to offer.

"This is land that's been in my family for 150 years," said Roxanna Crabtree. "This is prime agriculture area. This is a nice community."
