Here in Smokeville, my boys may not be smoking. Two of them seem interested in smokers. The smoking news from work did not come from Amy but from Shannon, a saintly single woman at work.
Shannon was shaken when some of her workmates brought a birthday cake and sang happy birthday when they lured her out into the smokey commons area. Shannon thanked all of us. She did not immediately return to work. Others left her to regain her composure.
Amy joined me on the break when the birthday girl sat with us. Shannon asked me for one of my Capris, saying ever since Amy tried smoking last week, she had wanted one.
Amy said she sort of liked cigarettes but in her situation, she could not see herself emerging as a smoker.
Single at 29, Shannon said in her situation, she could use a change.
I'm not aware of any more cigarettes Shannon had, but some of her workmates, including Amy, went out for a drink.
I need to tell you the playoff plans. Tomorrow, we go to the opposing team's field which is about a 90-minute trip. Friday, we play them at home. Saturday night we play at neutral field.
Pitching is a problem. The catcher will certainly pitch one of the games, possibly the first, and my son will be the catcher.
The coach looked at some other kids to pitch, including my son who was only average when he pitched with his Pony League age group last summer.
Amy's daughter Ashley, who has the attention of my son, is the one I consider the non-smoker. Reportedly she tried one last weekend and did not like it. Lacy, who does not hang with the smokers her brother now hosts, sat around most of the day with my son but did go into the Sin Den for a couple. A 6th grader needs her cigarettes.
My oldest rode around with Amber, his gf, who is replacing the after-school time she spent in softball practice with more smoking.
So, please tell us about your smoking Wednesday.
