Being the diet specialist, I was watching the Slaughter at Minute Maid tonight and wondering why they send people to designated concourse areas to smoke and pan the crowd, showing them drinking beer and stuffing their faces with junk food.
I did have one beer tonight as a bunch of us gathered after work. Some may really need the coffee tomorrow but I can handle a beer every week or so. My old weight is not showing any sign of coming back.
The guy who once made strange comments about me smoking was there with his wife. He was in hog heaven surrounded by women smoking.
Evelyn, who took up smoking at 10 some 22 years ago, was there with her sister, Shiela, a social smoker. Sheila is 36. They didn't mention if they had any more proble with Sheila's 12 and 15 year-old daughters smoking. Both ladies look like soccer moms.
When I left, both were still there. So was Blanche, a former smoker who had one from the sisters tonight. Smoking is old hat for Claudia, the executive secretary, Toni, who is 31, took one of Claudia's Marlboro Lights at the T.G.I.T. breakfast, had another tonight. That pace shouldn't hurt her. Toni had her first cigarette when she was 10. She said she quit smoking before she was 13 and then had a few in her 20s. She said she never bought but has smoked more than a pack since turning 30.
Toni said she was often able to slip in 5 a day before she turned 11.
Anita, who once said she never smoked had 2 tonight. Lately, its been one at the breakfast. Marci, who took them up a year ago at 18 after working here, gave Anita her first ones. Marci's buddy, Diane, a long-time smoker but only 19, both encourage Anita to take up smoking at the ripe old age of 43.
Blanche, 39, smokes but says she does not want to get the habit she had in college. The 36-year-old lady who had been quit for 4 years after stopping for her third pregnancy had her own pack of Virginia Slims menthol. She's pretty well back but don't tell her husband.
In addition to the breakfast tomorrow, there will be a bridal shower for my daughter who is to wed in July. The groom's mother is hosting the event and smoking will be allowed.
