One of my 20-year-old granddaughters called today to warn me that she smoked. She's the one out where I came from. She will room with another 20-year-old granddaughter who lives closer to here.
Whitney says she hopes I won't mind her smoking. I asked if she was going to talk Emily, her cousin near hear. She said she was going to talk to her next. She also said she was certain Emily was very much against smoking. Emily's big sister graduated from college earlier this month and is on a graduation trip. Mandy smoked since she was 12 despite her mother being an apparent anti like Emily. Emily has been going to college her but lived in the dorms.
I said it was up to them to work it out. Either way, I said I would follow your rules.
"Follow our rules," Whitney asked. I knew they heard I had smoked in the previous 2 summers although not in front of any of them. She said she thought I had smoked a pack or 2 over the summer.
"Heck, mom does that," Whitney said. That was news to me. My oldest son is married to Holly whom I've never seen or heard of smoking.
We did not continue that part of the conversation. I told them to set the rules and I will follow. I also told Whitney about Dennis, the guy I met and that I have been offered a 2-year non-tenure position at this 4 year university. At 62, a 2-year basic guarantee is better than tenure. My community college is dangling a payoff option in front of us older instructors anyway. I don't feel any pressure at all to accept it.
