In reply to: Susan 's message, "Please tell us about your smoking Wednesday" on 07:46:41 05/03/06 Wed

Today was unusual for me. Brandi and I go out to have a cigarette and here comes Wes and Rick. Rick has been moved into a semi department head status and Wes is head of sales for our region but reports to another office. He spends a lot more time on the road.
Neither of the guys smoke. Sara tried smoking around Christmas but did not get started. Maggie, Rick's wife, has successful given up smoking. Sara is 40 and Maggie is 34.
I had heard rumors to that effect but Wes said that his daughter has turned 14 and has been given permission to smoke. "It's funny with a kid the only smoker," Wes said.
Rick agreed but said he would love his 12-year-old to take up smoking so his wife would return to smoking.
"That's terrible," Brandi said. Then she explained that she tried cigarettes as young as 10 but was 13 when her mother caught her and gave up smoking.
"It was 5 years later and I was in college when I had my next one," Brandi said. Rick asked how her mother took her smoking now. Brandi said she could not afford cigarettes all the time until a few months ago. "I'm 23 so my mother accepts my smoking," Brandi said. "She doesn't even tell me to quit. She just said enjoy and then quit before any of your children try one." Brandi concluded: "I have a ways to go."
Rick said his wife quit during her pregnancy. "My mom did not," Brandi said, "but I'm sure I will."
They looked at me and I said "me too." They laughed like they didn't think I could do it.
