Subject: In the pageant system (no longer exists) that was our favorite, the winner of the oldest age highest title was traditionally made into an ambassador at the conclusion of her reign . In that system unlike many of today's systems royalty loved returning and ambassadors faithfully returned year after year to be there as role models for the younger girls, to help out and to be featured as special royalty. The families of these ambassadors paid their own travel and hotel expenses plus their other expenses from that week. This was when pageantry was clearly a hobby and when kids had favorite systems that they did year after year
