I was looking at Allan Sniffen's WCBS FM Back to the Oldies Board, and I found some very interesting stuff. There is a website - www.freewebs.com/cbsplaylist/ In the first 72 hours, they have played 595 different songs. Only one 50's song has been played - Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues". Only 7 other pre 1964 songs have been played. The signature sound of the station - New York Dity Doo Wop - has only one song - Dion's "Ruby Baby". Such great groups as the Duprees, the Earls, the Chimes, the Elegants, the Passions and the Mystics have been totally ignored. Not to mention the Five Satins - "In the Still of the Night", the number one song on almost every top 500 Countdown voted by the listeners of the station. It seems to be crystal clear - new management has no intention of pleasing the doo wop crowd. They are labeling themselves as a 60's station, but are virtually ignoring the first four years of that decade.
I have been labeled a "whiner" and a crybaby". I have been accused of "raining on the parade", but I'm still waiting for the parade to start. And since Friday, I am seeing a growing number of posters coming to the realization that their oldies station is only partially back. Brian Thomas - we are very disappointed!
