Jett - I agree with many of your points. I have been listening during the 10 days since the rebirth of the station. It is nothing like it was in its glory days. It's a nice station, better than anything else on the NYC fm dial right now. Even though they are playing some 50's stuff (and I believe that is just on a special weekend and will not be a regular thing), I still miss the doowop, don't care too much for the 70's music and have no use for the 80's stuff at all. When I hear "the greatest hits of the 60's, 70's.......and now the 80's!", it becomes an automatic cue to get my finger ready to hit a preset, because a dreadful 80's song is about to come on. They do play things I like, but I find myself too often hitting the presets. Lenghty commercials also drive me to the presets.
But they do not claim to be an oldies station, so you can't expect a whole lot of oldies. "Classic Hits" is what it is. So far, the only longtime CBS jock back is Bob Shannon, with many other different voices looking to attract a younger audience. If they can attract this younger audience, they will succeed. So far, judging from this board, a lot of the old audience is accepting this format, and together with the younger audience will make this successful. And for the sake of all the entusiastic supporters of the new format, I hope it stays on the air. As for me, I will continue jumping around the presets.
