Apparently I don't understand it, but it seems to me that neither does Infinity. The business as you describe it, is just not logical and is self defeating by nature.

I run a successful business. I know that turning away customers due to their age or any other reason is economic suicide. The rule of survival is to "go where the money is".

If a business can secure an established and stable customer base it must take advantage of it. This is the most basic of lessons of economics.

Don't forget that until recently, many domestic companies refused to package their goods in containers with Spanish language labels, because this was not a "desired demographic". Logic prevailed and they saw that Latino customers were just as good as any other group. It looks like the broadcast world must learn the same lesson.
