I think you're giving Joe McCoy a pass. He was screwing up the playlist long before Jammin Oldies in late '98. He's the bad guy with the black hat, the guy who dumped the Maxman, "The Man Who Killed Doo Wop", the guy who eroded the station enough for his Infinity bosses to easily topple it over.
After Max left in '95, he was the morning man for awhile at 97.7 in Poughkeepsie. I also enjoyed litening to him do afternoon drive on Jukebox Radio in northern Jersey and Rockland. Max lived near me for awhile and was a member of my VFW post. I believe he's on a small station in Jersey now. So many great jocks passed through the doors of CBS FM. I loved the reunion weekends, the special shows with Zacherley and Wolfman Jack. It was a great part of our lives until the guy with the black hat. It was getting to the point where I would hear a record and think I was tuned to a different station. Not only the 50's music, but much of the early 60's pre-Beatle music was disappearing. You could tell 5 or 6 years ago June 3rd would eventually come.
