Subject: The Double Standard

An interesting observation regarding the double standard existing in the radio/tv business...

My family watched several hours of TV last night. The programs had commercial breaks every 10 minutes or so. This is fine. What was very evident was that every single commercial that we watched had an oldies song as it's theme. Every one!

If the TV advertisers cherish oldies so much as to use them to bring in ad revenue, why then do the radio moguls abhor this music, saying that there is no money in it?

From a laymen's point of view, it seems that the Madison Avenue "suits" who create TV ads are specifically targeting baby boomers. This is logical since we have the highest disposable income as compared to twenty-somethings who are skating along in an apartment shared with five other people and 10 IPODs.

In the Terrestrial radio world, the message seems to have gotten lost. The stations are targeting an age group that for the most part, doesn't even listen to the radio.
