On Saturday Night Oldies on WABC, Mark Simone mentions every week that oldies were mixed specifically for AM Radio. I would love to have an Oldies Station on AM Radio. According to what I hear the reason we do not have oldies on the radio is because advertisers think that people over 50 are set in their ways on what they buy from toothpaste to cars and they can not be sold despite that they have the most disposable income. The marketing people are wrong. If you read the article in my first post you will see that thinking is changing. There are many wasted stations on AM that make very little money and have low ratings. I have been told by people that these stations will not put on oldies because they use the stations as a promotional tool. An example of this is WQEW which uses the station to promote Disney. When I was growing up, New York had the best radio stations with the biggest variety. New York now has the worst stations. If you do not have satelite radio, I advise you to listen to some of the oldies stations on the internet. The best oldies station on line is WLNG with a large playlist from the 50's, 60's and 70's. This is the kind of oldies station I would like to have in New York.
