I think the radio broker in the article was right on the money with his observations about the recent change at 96.7 FM. Unfortunately what he pointed out as far as the "sheep mentality" is frequently the case in the business these days.

I still believe as I have stated here and elsewhere that when the oldies format was dropped last June in New York and Chicago, the industry got scared and they did not have to.

As a result of those decisions, the so called experts assumed that since this music was taken off the air in two major markets then it must happen all over the country.

It is a pretty sad statement that Dusty Rhodes after WSAI in Cincinnati went talk could not find a station that would hire him and play oldies. He was able to go into a lease agreement or LMA with another station so it is available again in that area on WDJO. Also being streamed at www.oldies1160.com.

The change did not have to happen on March 29. If the former Kool had decided to broaden the playlist and became exciting to listen to, it would still be doing it today.

Yes getting rid of the on air talent will save money but I feel radio needs to stand out. You have to spend money and become a station people will talk about in order to make money.

Now 967 the Coast sounds like many other radio stations. It's sad.
