Walt always makes good points.

I was somewhat alluding to the reasoning that if a station has very good 12+ numbers, and that if younger people don't listen, then the 35-49 or 35-64 numbers must be huge. And such would be huge with a music audience, not a talk or sports audience.

Yes, WFAN is a monster biller, undeniably. But they are not a music station. Since this was an Oldies-based board I sought for music station support in the recent R&R numbers. Sports perennially appeals to all demos and ages anyway. But at that, would you say, Walt, that the fact that WFAN also shows up in something like 20 market books is a perceptible factor in its revenue success? More often than not, for example, they beat out the Hartford sports station. In Hartford. (I know it's a statistical/provincial point, but according to marketing, Hartford is three markets away. And it used to be four market's away :-)

I hear ya on the demos, Walt. Nowadays that's the pattern, of course -- especially in New York City. I and others are just antsy about the lack of younger-end radio listening ... and that if and when 35+ (with a tolerance of the older end) ever becomes 'desirable', there might not be any music stations left programming to the demo.
