I tuned in at 4 o'clock to hear Bob Shannon. I had become used to the Fab 4 at 4 feature at that point but something was different.

The station was playing an unusual number of songs from the '50s. At that time, they only featured the '5ps on Sunday nights.
Also no commercials and no jock for about 30 minutes.

Then a little after 4:30, the Summer Wind by Sinatra was heard and then the pause and the mix with movie and song clips and the word "Jack" removed till 4:57 when the bomb dropped.

I called my best friend who owns a radio station in Virginia just before 5 o'clock and told him that I thought WCBS FM was changing to the Jack format. I wish I was wrong but we all know the end result.

It's worth noting that it is now a year later and the station is not doing well overall and people are just as angry as they were on that day or when they first heard the change at 101.1.

I have never seenas much opposition to a change and I have kept up with the business for over 49 years.

Let's keep our community together and get oldies back on in the number one radio market.
