I first *read* the news at about 4:45pm that day of the format flip on the NYRMB by a poster named Glenn, and that message was posted 36 minutes after Bill Brown had signed off (and, of course, that infamous meeting at 1515 Broadway). My real first thoughts was simply that the station had terminated all the on-air staff, and when I got home in the evening, the music had changed and sounded so awful and hollow.
