Subject: Supermarket Music XVI -- O/T As Always

Not that this song was the most memorable throwback/hybrid ever pressed, but it had me riveted for a while in Boyers today, me standing in my usual fixated rapture under a speaker, and shoppers edging away into other aisles. Was wondering if someone on this Oldies board could help.
With the title and artist, that is.

Male singer (or male group vocal) ..... Much emphasized electronic hand-clap percussion and a tempo along the lines of a high-tech 'Sugar Sugar' ..... Raspy vocals, somewhat along the timbre of, say, Chris Rea .... What sounded like Major 7th chords (instead of three-note chords) going back and forth for the entire song .... The Fade ironically went 'I'll fade away .... I'll fade away ... ' .... No other notable poetry or lyrics..... No apparent harmony.

Well, it had MY TSL, hi.

Clues? And thx for the Board space. I figure you folks would be sympathetic.
