It's not a societal issue, it's about the broadcasting business generating revenue. If the ad agencies suddenly coveted 66-year-old polka lovers, there would be three polka stations on the air within six months.

Infinity has no opinion on oldies music or over-50 listeners apart from the ability to sell advertising that makes its radio stations profitable. The fact they've programmed oldies in other markets where it makes economic sense to do so should dissuade you from the paranoia this is about the music or esteem for people over a certain age.

There's no country station in NY. Is this indicative of a conspiracy against hayseeds...or is it manifestation of the belief advertisers are not especially interested in country listeners in this particular market? After all, Infinity successfully operates country stations in other markets. Guess they don't hate country after all.

Why can't people realize this has no meaning other than stations trying to maximize revenue? Follow the money.
