Subject: It's all clear now!

Does anyone suppose that Infinity had a bigger vision when they scuttled CBS-FM for Jack?

I think that they honestly thought that Jack would boost their bottom line profits by drawing a fresh audience. I also believe that they specifically chose WCBS-FM over their other stations for a reason.

Infinity planned to bring back oldies on HD radio from day 1. Knowing that the oldies format drew a large audience, they decided to launch HD-FM with oldies rather than another format. They assumed that the former listeners would come back, since there is no other oldies station in the city (not to mention their very emotional ties to WCBS-FM). This would give HD radio a big jump-start in New York.

Since the CBS-FM listeners tend to have a little more money to spend than the younger crowd, making the conversion to HD-FM would be not much of a problem, or so they think. In other words, Infinity gets an instant audience for their newly launched HD station! The plan is brilliant in a way, but one huge mistake was made, and that was the firing of the on-air staff.
