Question here for you folks; nothing other than curiosity.... I'm not living in the NYC market.

WCBS-FM went through myriad changes over those decades, to a large extent in personalities, and to a slower extent, music. And people of different ages listened during different eras.

Now, I didn't grow up listening to Oldies. There were no Oldies formats until 1972. Primarily, though, anyone who is younger than 45 is chronologically fortunate enough to've done just that -- hear oldies as a teen.

The question is combersome, but if WPLJ were to go great-guns Oldies in three days, with an expanded playlist but with different DJ's along with recent WCBS-FM luminaries such as Holly Levis or Dan Taylor or Micky Dolenz, or maybe even Mark Simone, would that be considered 'acceptable'? I'm doubting it would be to a lot of the people on this forum and the older Sniffen/Shannon board -- maybe enough disatisfaction to warp the actual listener base.

We all miss a lot of the same things about WCBS-FM, and many of us miss different facets. (Keep in mind as well that a new Oldies station in New York would then place IT as an available format for a younger generation to 'grow up listening to Oldies' as well, although not as many as previously).

Would you support such a station? Is the void that serious that most flaws would be forgiven, or would such a new Oldies station in NYC tend to be unfairly compared enough to make a negative difference?
