Well, it is now seven months since the flip at 'CBS-FM, but when I search in where I wish hear oldies nowadays on over-the-air free radio, it is currently these three main choices...

1. WWKB-AM 1520, Buffalo, NY: It comes in quite clear from sunset to sunrise, especially on my boom box at home. Great oldies selection from the 1950's and 1960's in the mix, including some rarities songs that the station plays on their Saturday Night all-request show.

2. WICC-AM 600, Bridgeport, CT: Al Warren ("The Music Man") has a great weekend morning show that plays a wide variety of music, even including those "Rock And Roll Classics" from the 1950's. Yes, WICC is known as a news/talk station, but they are successful in that market to play music during that "off-peak" time period.

Back this past November, my "lost hits" request which I e-mailed to him, "You Belong To Me" by Carly Simon (1978), was recently played during the Thanksgiving weekend. Signal reception comes in good in the daylight hours at home.

3. WABC-AM 770, New York, NY: Mark Simone's great new Saturday Night Oldies show, which in essence now becomes "appointment radio" for me and other listeners who are tuning in there. I really see that four-hour program to get much better in the weeks ahead, and Mark Simone has the rhythm and tempo down pat on this once-a-week format.

I tried WMTR-AM 1520 from Morristown, NJ for a while, but I had to give that up because of too much static bouncing off the buildings in my area. Online internet streams I have tried in the past included WCBSFM.com, plus the on-air streams linked directly and indirectly from stations as seen on the Bob Shannon.com home page.

Of course, there is always my CD's and tapes to listen to frommy collection, and I usually still buy more of them as time goes by. I recently purchased a pair of doo-wop CD's on the Collectables label, focusing on the groups from the Bronx, NY and New Haven, CT.
