I agree with you on this. Years ago who ever thought we would be watching Infomercials on major network stations in NYC ? Channel 2, 4, and 7 . I only subscribe to the lowest cost Cable tv which covers 2 to 13 and some others mostly in spanish from ch 14 to 22 on the cable system here. I miss all the "old" movies they used to show at off peak times on TV but I guess they make more from running infomercials. Similar for Radio, there is less and less I listen to on Broadcast Radio. I do enjoy out of area radio stations by listening via the internet that play what " I " want to hear but can not get on the NY market stations. The old movies ? Yes, hundreds of them have come out on budget DVD ( check out www.oldies.com in the video section ) . I think I watch more on Budget DVD's now than I do broadcast television. Also now have sirius radio as well as all the " purchased Music " I have accumilated over a " few " decades. What many of us want to listen to, regardless of what it is, is still out there it just may cost us a few bucks and not be as convienient as it was when we could get it on " The Radio ".

In the UK, people have to Pay the equivalent of about $180 / year as a License fee to have a TV in their house regardless of how they get a tv signal ( off air, cable, satellite etc. ) This License fee sounds absurd to many of us here in the USA. The License Fee is how the BBC gets its money, not from advertisers. After watching many many hours of BBC Tv while in the UK I have to admit the BBC still has many entertaining, educational, and quality tv programms on its TV Channels. Seeing the way things are going here with our Broadcast Radio and TV , the License fee the Britts pay, at times does not seem as bad as it first sounds.
