In my opinion, Broadcast Radio, just like Broadcast TV is now "officially interred".

We listeners are voting with our wallets, abandoning regular radio and flocking to Sirius and XM in large numbers. Just like their TV brothers, broadcast radio stations are losing audience share by cutting quality of programming and catering to the "lowest common demominator".

TV execs made this blunder years ago and let the market get away from them. Just remember, what is now called "cable TV", started out as "Conmmunity Antenna" TV in poor reception areas. When CATV began to bring in new and better programs, they grew. In response to the decreasing market share, the networks cut costs and quality of programming. The rest is history. The three major networks now own only a tiny market share. In the age of High Definition TV, the former "Big Three" broadcasters offer the worst programming in the history of electronic media. Broadcast radio is following the exact same path.

As someone mentioned in an earlier post, the radio execs are using a flawed, decades old, business model. This will cost them dearly in revenue, and XM/Sirius will prosper since the latter offers what listeners want.
