Subject: Been listening to podcasts(thanks,SarahR!)& the mentions of Nick on the UTN excerpt got me thinking again.

I've asked this before, but I'm curious to know what Artemis meant by the "consequences of making a Dark-Hunter out of a suicide".(Nick) I mean, she was really freaked over it,one of the few times I've actually seen her scared,I got the feeling that she's afraid of more than just making Ash angry over his friend.Do you think it has something to do with the fact that souls must be freely given, and that suicide is considered a mortal sin? But doesn't Ash hold Nick's soul right now? I guess I'm trying to understand how Nick is ever going to be free, unless he becomes "other" like Alexion,Urian,&Danger, somehow. But I really wonder, who besides Ash could/would punish Artie for "making" Nick? If Zeus is her father, then he must be more powerful than her, right? Yet,we never hear anything on that front, besides in Night Embrace when she threatens Dionysus with their father's wrath, right? It seems to me that Apollymi is equal in power to Artie, only because she is contained-she would surely be more powerful if she was released from Kalosis.

[> Well... let's see. I think there are a lot of interesting possible consequences. Perhaps Nick, as a Catholic, sacrificed his soul when he killed himself. So, did Artemis take the soul from the Christian God? Or, since she refers to smelling the sulfer and Lucifer -- perhaps she pissed off Satan himself? Plus, did she possible break her on rules? Every other Dark-Hunter's act of betrayal resulted in his/her own death for which they demand vengeance. Nick demanded vengeance for his mother's murder. When Artie denied him, he killed himself which is not the same thing as someone else killing him. So, there are a lot of possibilities for further trouble. -- Mary Stella, 20:15:34 12/09/05 Fri [1]

[> I find it interesting that SK has incorporated so many different deities into her stories. We have the Atlantean, Greek, Roman, and Celtic gods as well as mention of the Christian God and even ol'Scratch himself. Then of course there is my Savitar and even he says that there are powers that govern him. I wonder if Nick commiting suicide broke one of the universal, elemental laws that govern powers of life and death and that is why it's such a big deal. Maybe Artemis was defying the "Supreme Governance" of the universe by taking Nick's soul. I'm going to have to mull this over some more to explore the possibilities and potential outcomes. -- ~Sarah R.~, 22:33:07 12/09/05 Fri [1]
