Where RBLs come to theorize and talk about all things D H

• Katra & Artemis-pages 186 to 187!!! -- , 21:09:04 02/08/07 Thu [13]
  That ENTIRE conversation between them,and that little term "matisera" Kat uses,Artie's reaction when she says,"No,that's like my mother" or whatever,I am FIRMLY convinced that Artemis is Katra's mother,her father is Acheron,which makes her Grandma Apollymi! I know this is another one that many of us have pulled hair out and gnashed teeth over for years,and even though it was not totally,absolutely confirmed like the "Apollymi is Mommy" thing,it is enough for me-I am a total believer now,so if it turns out different,OMG,I bow and scrape and salute Sherri for getting away with the ultimate Jedi mind-trick.
  There has to be a reason she has favored Kat above all her other Koris,and WHY on earth would Kat KNOW she was safe from death by Artemis if she wasn't her mother? Kat says she's a tool for both Artie & Apollymi,and while that may be the case NOW,I think,based on her behavior in Seize the Night,and her thoughts about Ash in this one (pages 106-107 reaffirm her love and devotion for him)that she is just waiting,biding her time until she can step in and throw her support solidly behind Ash when he is finally ready to break free of Artie & he needs it most.I think she will quite possibly make the ultimate sacrifice for him and give her own life if it becomes necessary.Since Artemis doesn't look likely to win the Mother of the Year award,it would not surprise me in the least to see her take her selfishness to the highest level and threaten and/or attempt to kill Katra for her interference,or use her as a last-ditch effort at keeping Ash by her side.I say attempt because of that little part about Kat telling Artemis that if they went to war,who did she think would win-THAT remark is utterly confident and secure in both words and tone.It makes total sense if Ash is indeed her father-because it's been said many times that his powers make a mockery of Artie's at the end of the day.Then there is that bit about Zebulon calling Kat a 'god of mixed heritage' on page 117.Yes,Atlantean and Greek would be mixed,wouldn't it? *G*
  
  Also,if Artemis did all that,it would almost certainly destroy any lingering feelings of sympathy and regret that SHE did not end up as Ash's heroine,something a rather small number of fans,myself included,had once felt.She was such an a$$ in Darkside that I lost a LOT of sympathy for her then,but this little theory I have would be the final straw for me-her willing to sacrifice/use their own child in hatred against the very man she created that child with,just for her own selfish gain.But then,she already has,really,if you think about it.Yeah,she's a bitch,LOL.
  
  Then there is page 289,where Kat calls Apollymi "Mibreiara"-I am guessing that "Matisera" and "Mibreiara" mean Mother and Grandmother,respectively.
  Atlantean or Ancient Greek maybe.I googled them both,just for kicks,and the only thing that showed was "matisera" and it was in a sentence with language that looked maybe German or Dutch to me,not sure since I don't speak either,but have seen a bit of German writing here and there.I tried an online translator thing,but alas,nothing.So,I imagine it is something Sherri created in a moment of supreme evilness. *G*
  
  Out of the whole book,the Kat/Artie thing is what floored me-I was INCREDIBLY excited,just about through the roof to read those pages.I read them at least 3 or 4 times in a row,I was so excited! I am really,really looking forward to the ultimate showdown between Ash & Artie,and I think Kat is going to play a big part in it,possibly be the Coup de grace to Artie's sick hold over Ash.

  • Taking the ideal of Artemis the "Mommy" and Ash the "Daddy" of Kat, could work. However, I went back over Seize the Night (per Lucy's observation and I really want Kat to be Ash's Heroine). The scene with Kat and the stone Ash, this is where I really feel that Kat is the heroine not daughter. In the Dream Hunter, Kat's devotion and protectiveness was more daughter-ish (sister if you want to go there). NOW on to Bo theory about matisera. According to the Latin/Greek dictionary I looked at in Borders, Mat at the beginning,( sorry ladies please bear with my explaination) means mother, in womb (maternity), but also forms matron as in prison matron.   Okay,so since I tend to get carried away,I'll post a few (or more,LOL) separate threads on the stuff that really wowed me-
  
  One of the BEST surprises for me came at the end of the book,on pg 333-we finally,FINALLY get absolute,TOTAL confirmation of something many of us have "known" for years-
  APOLLYMI IS ASH'S MOTHER!!!! Yeehaw!!! *G*
  
  I was INCREDIBLY excited to see that in print,for me it was like Sherri telling me to my face,finally confirming something absolute and total that has dragged on for years,with that last little .0000001 of a percent doubt just driving me crazy,LOL!
  
  And,how sad,the exchange between Nick,Kyrian,and Ash regarding Cherise-it now seems as though her death was predestined from even earlier on than our Seize the Night timeframe,since this timeframe is before even Zarek was free!This book makes me want to do a total series re-read-I already have plans to pore over my previous notes and compare,LOL.

That whole book is so emotional - I spend half my time wanting to protect Zarek from all the insults and tortures of his life and the other half wanting to jump him.   • I'd be confused if it were. Ash said that he'd ended up being Savitar if he cared for no one but himself - that the only thing he had that was different was his concious.     • I am wondering if Savitar is Archon. Maybe Archon wasn't really destroyed by Ash, afterall. Or maybe he was but was reincarnated or something to that effect. Sav's powers are pretty all-inclusive, and he is omniscient. He only cares for two beings. I had forgotten who, but someone down below jogged my memory and one of those beings is apparently Ash.   Aramina - lots of A's and collects ancient vampire killing kits. You know we all forgot about her and I reckon she's a possible.
  I always thought the whole Katra being Ash's kid was a furphy, but after rereading Wulf's book I'm having a rethink. It would also tie in with why she is beholden to both Artie and Apollymi.
  Wulf's book had previously left me a tad disappointed, but the second time around it definitely improves. There is also something about one of the Charonte's mentioned in here as being a servant to Apollymi (the yellow one) that strikes me as interesting. Can't quite get a handle on it though.
  There were other things that Ash said that I feel I should have taken more notice of, but again it was late at night and I've lost them again *sigh*.
  I am so glad I decided to reread the whole series again, I realise that Kyrian is really my favourite besides Ash (nothing like your first is there *g*) and those earlier books really rocked my world. No other books were keeping my interest after reading DSOTM and sometimes you just need to revisit old friends.

I just about shite myself when that happened *G* That was the most evil,twisted,diabolical thing since Nick & Simi *G* You know,I'm very pi$$ed right now,b/c I toasted the harddrive on my laptop a few weeks back,so all I have left of my Darkside notes right now is 1 of 3 pages I scribbled on as I was reading .I'm thinking that he is redeemable in some fashion,but it will be a long and bitter journey,possibly lasting until either the very end of the series or something close to it.-I'm thinking that Ash might not even be able to do it,that it's going to have to come from someone/somewhere else and may involve destroying Stryker to do it,which is weird for me,b/c I've actually thought a time or two that even Stryker might be redeemed in the end.I think Nick has been loved by far too many fans for SK to just make him a baddie and let it ride to the end.Then again,we never thought a DH could turn Daimon/other (whatever Cael is now) did we?               • i think there is a part in the book where Stryker is talking about what the darkhunters would do when the found out the secret behind the whole blood drinking thing. Cael drank the daimon blood and didn't die either so i think this is somehow very significant. Remember daimons drink blood to steal souls. a darkhunter doesn't have a soul.   • Correct me if I'm wrong. Stryker was ADOPTED by Apollymi. Ash is her bastard SON. So, Ash has the silver eyes naturally. Stryker - perhaps by drinking Apollymi's blood got his silver eyes. Nick now has silver eyes. BUT, Ash has god powers because he is one by birth. Stryker by conversion? So Ash's powers are greater than Stryker's - no dilution. Nick now has a demi-god's blood - what power's have inadvertantly transferred to him? If so, will those powers contribute to the Birth of whoever in the future?? Is Apollymi a Daimon, god or Daimon god??? So maybe , if the blood is the same with Stryker since it came from Apollymi, but AsH is her bloodline, then maybe Nick's need to feed could be transferred to ASH whenever Nick gets over his tantrum about Ash?????   • It will be interesting. He doesn't seem to be inherently evil, but Stryker sees him as an ally/minion. And Ash foresaw his fate, which suggest Cael isn't linked to Ash's own destiny.   • Well whatever happened to Cael obviously he understood it. He made the call to Ravyn after the blood drinking, so obviously it didn't make him evil. But i think he will have to hunt just like the Daimons which he regrets, both him and his wife. Obviously Spawn is Apollite...but i think this makes Cael a Daimon which is different. I think Cael is pretty much screwed-I think what might happen is that if he doesn't feed like the Daimons do,then he is destined for instant shadedom,since he hasn't got his soul.The other possibility is that he's a set up for the bomb dropping on what/who Ash really is(Sorry,I'm trying not to get off track here! *G*)I don't think he could be killed and then given his soul immediately like a normal DH,that's too easy.OOH! I just had an idea-if he is like a Daimon now,and must take souls to survive,yet he still is a DH,What if he started getting rid of the Daimons by feeding off them,then killing them when he's through? We know that a Daimon can ,look at Urian and Phoebe! So,I guess it's not impossible that Cael could do his DH job and survive as A Daimon-whatever he is,at least for a while. And he had that whole scenario where if he took the time to do so would alter her destiny? Rememeber he did the same with Cael. He was waiting outside when Cael asked him if something was up. Ash had to make the decision whether to let him go on or intercept him. HE KNEW....so it obviously plays a very big part in Cael and the other Hunters destiny that ASH could not interfere with!   Who lusts after Ash and why? I ask because I honestly don't
  lust for him at all.Not that his description doesn't sound sexy,but what I feel for him is this:
  
  Compassion,for what he's been through,and continues to go through in his life(past & present torments
  
  Rage,against Artemis when she shows her selfish streak over him,beating him,etc.
  
  Admiration,for his will to survive and the way he can still manage to crack a joke,considering his life
  
  I even pity him a little.I feel for him,how tortured he is,but the kind of comfort I feel like giving him is more the big sister or mother type letting the little one cry on your shoulder,hold him and make the pain go away,etc.
  He inspires me to friendship and basic human kindness more than anything.He has never inspired me to lust-insomnia,maybe,over what he is,etc.,but never lust.Just wondering how you all felt about him,basically.

  • Well,it's pretty boring around here,I actually would hate for a book to be based here.But NYC could be very fun.London could be good,maybe a Jack-the-Ripper sort of thing where the Daimons are only preying on prostitutes,etc.Maybe Miami or Chicago-the DH andthe Daimons could have run-ins with the mob,that would be good.Italy,Corsica maybe.Somewhere exotic.I think Velkan and Retta's might actually be set in Rumania(sp?)so that will be neat,even if it is a short story.
