Subject: Another question... Why did you like Bride from "Night Play?" Was it the fact, that SK dared to present us with a plus-sized heroine? Did you like her because she was your basic good girl who deserved a HEA?

...I ask these questions, because to this day, I think I'm the only person who seriously didn't care for Bride. It had nothing to do, of course, with her appearance. My problem with her was that I never saw her fall in love with Vane. She was totally amazed and breathless the during the whole book that a sexy man actually liked her, and thought her to be sexy, even though she was battling weight issues. I felt like she basically clutched on to the man because he actually wanted her, and she thought it the impossible now or ever... I sort of didn't like that "settling for" feeling... I'm sure it was not the intention of the book, but I re-read it and still... I felt that SETTLED FOR one another, because they didn't think they could have another...

What are your thoughts?

[> I liked Bride, but I didn't love her.I liked that she was plus-sized,b/c I could relate, but I confess I did feel she could have shown a little more self-confidence at times. There are days I feel like an absolute blob, and other days I feel sezy and terrific, and I weighed the same on both days,LOL ! I like to think that Vane would have loved her anyways, had she weighed 50 lbs more or 25 lbs less, but I do think they loved each other. Not one of my fave couples, though, just b/c they didn't spark like Val and Tabitha(She absolutely kicks major a$$,I love her!),or Dante and Pandora.I guess when you get a fave it ruins you for other characters,somewhat...*G* -- Boadicea, 17:14:11 11/21/05 Mon [1]

[> I liked Bride because she was a heroine with many insecurities that she had to "get over" in order to have what she deserved. I did like the idea of a plus sized heroine, but then I like characters to be different. I think that there are too many skinny white girls in romance novels as it is. I don't think that Bride was as strong as many of the women portrayed in the other novels, but she was unique. The Katagaria have to "settle" for each other because they are predestined to be together so I find it interesting to see how the relationship evolves around the situation. -- ~Sarah R.~, 22:47:20 11/21/05 Mon [1]

[> I liked Bride too. First because she was plus sized, against the norm, Also, yeah, she might have come across as a waffle, but thats WHY I liked her. It was more real. There ARE women like that...it seemed more real to me. That even with those hang-ups and insecurities..someone sees beyond that, to the love and passion stored up inside and knows that once tapped, it will be Thiers..in this case, Vane's. She's HIS woman. The treasure inside her is HIS. And Bride is more than happy to BE his. To me, it's a very sexy relationship. But, that's just my opinion. -- Michele N, 05:32:39 11/22/05 Tue [1]

[> Good question Lina. Now that I think back on it. I think I love Bride because Vane loves her. Does that make sense? I like that he loved her despite all of her insecurities, poor choices and weight issue. Maybe seeing her through his eyes as someone worthy of love ,made me love her. We all can agree that Vane is one of a kind. -- MsE, 16:26:28 11/22/05 Tue [1]
