On Monday, July 23rd, Mr. Vince Toomey passed on from complications resulting from a severe stroke that he suffered on Friday evening. He passed relatively quickly and seemed to not suffer too badly -- something we all prayed hard and are thankful for.

He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, one daughter (Ellen) and two sons (Patrick and John).

Vince was a man of extreme character and conviction, and posessed one of the finest intellects I've ever known. He lived his life to the fullest -- feasting on his many passions: Sports, Reading, Dining, Music, Shows and Wine!

In addition, Vince enjoyed the many hours he spent on the softball diamond coaching various friends and teamates of his son John. I was fortunate enough to play for coach Toomey for numerous years and fondly remember his boundless enthusiasm and uplifting spirit. He was extremely positive regardless of the score and always seemed to keep the game in perspective -- something I tried to learn from and apply to many things throughout my life.

He is also the primary reason the John Toomey we all know is as steeped in conviction (and as hard headed) as anyone most of us have ever known. Qualities I have quietly admired for over 26 years.

May he rest in peace.

Vince's life will be celebrated as only he would have wanted, with an old fashioned Irish wake. Date and place TBD. I look forward to hoisting several in his honor. Hope to see everyone there.
