Subject: Tuition fees

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/universityeducation/5001170/University-tuition-fees-need-to-rise-to-6500.html

Just come back from a meeting at the Students Union about this, quite a fierce debate as you can imagine. I can't believe the powers that be think that doubling the already high fees would be viable, I understand the arguments put forward by the vice chancellors (ours included) but this move would surely put off some prospective students at a critical time for all universities and increase the divide between the well off and less well off students.

and so he should be, they don't warrant any bonuses at all imo, I hope they manage to block the payments.

i get that the money was given before he took office...

but he's been so cautious...he needs to just go in there and say "fuck it. we're taking over. i don't care if people cry "socialist"."

Once tuition fees were even allowed, the possibility of raising them was inevitable. In 10 years time I reckon that fees will be much, much higher depending on what university they apply to.

The supporters often say that it doesn't put people off because they can obtain loans, but who really wants to start their working life with that much debt, especially in current circumstances?

and when yer young...loans seems so far off and removed...

and then all of a sudden you're 36 and owe $110,000...

hypothetically.

I'm glad my two won't have that burden on their shoulders, their father and I plus their grandparents have made sure of that, we want them to have the best start in life with no money worries, some of the student speakers this morning were extremely angry and disillusioned, it makes you wonder how things will be in 10 years time.
