If the DVD is encrypted (likely) you'll need an extra tool called DVD Decrypter (also a free download). Then you do the rip in two phases: first you decrypt the DVD to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter and then use Handbrake to turn the decrypted DVD files into something like an AVI file.

Yes, Google DVD Decrypter. It's a complicated story, but basically the decryption of DVDs is of suspect legality in some countries, so you have to hunt around for it a little. On Macs and Linux Handbrake will automatically use a decryption library if one is installed, but it seems on Windows you have to download a separate tool and do the rip in two passes.
