(He had expected her to be a bit upset with him, but not to shut him out. He knocked again, this time prepared to stop her should she shut him out. He knew that she was attracted to him, probably still harbored deep feelings for her as he figured he might for her as well. The only difference was that he was prepared to shove those feelings aside in order to keep her safe right now and allow himself to slip back off to his job when this one was over with. If he fell in love with her agian he would only be putting them both in danger of his weaknesses when it came to her.. it was safer for them both if he just kept his heart locked up in that little steel box with the heavy padlock.
