PEARL JAM: New Single Snippet Posted Online

A 15-second chorus snippet of the new PEARL JAM single, "World Wide Suicide", has been posted online at www.fmqbproductions.com. The full track — which, according to Billboard.com, resembles the groove-driven 1998 single "Do the Evolution" — isn't due to impact stations until March 8.

According to Billboard.com, no other details have been confirmed about PEARL JAM's as-yet-untitled new album (due on May 2), which will be the band's studio debut for J Records. It's the follow-up to 2002's Epic swan song "Riot Act", which has sold less than 500,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

"It's been a difficult record and it's like sometimes the harder something is, then the more valuable it becomes," PEARL JAM singer Eddie Vedder said during a Brazilian radio interview last year.

"It's easily the best stuff we've done but also some of the hardest stuff. It's very aggressive, because again, it's kind of a product of what it's like to be an American these days. It's pretty aggressive, especially when you turn it loud."

Before the band gets busy with promotion and touring, guitarist Mike McCready will stage a March 18 benefit for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation at Seattle's Showbox. McCready will play with his UFO tribute band, FLIGHT TO MARS, on a bill that also features the SUPERSUCKERS and LEE RUDE AND THE TRAINWRECKS.

Sounds promising, huh?
McCready has a UFO tribute band! Cool, I love UFO.
Though I'm not sure many Americans have even heard of them..........

Pearl Jam Takes Out Its Aggression On New Album

March 03, 2006, 4:25 PM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Pearl Jam wears its emotions on its sleeve on its self-titled eighth album, which, as previously reported, will be released May 2 via J Records. Material for the 13-track set took shape in the wake of President George W. Bush's re-election as well as the United States' invasion of Iraq, the third anniversary of which is quickly approaching.

"It's understandable why someone would like their entertainment to provide an escape from modern day worries and the reality of war," Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder tells Billboard.com. "We feel this record creates a healthy opportunity to process some of these emotions rather than deny them."

"It's like we took our aggressions and shaped something positive from them in a very direct manner," Vedder adds in a message on Pearl Jam's Web site, noting that after more than 15 years together, Pearl Jam feels re-energized by the new album. "Our band is like an old car, and this record is our new engine."

Two tracks have already been debuted live: "Comatose," which was previously known as "Crapshoot Rapture," is a fast, punkish rocker in the vein of "Spin the Black Circle," while Vedder's "Gone" was unveiled last fall during a show in Atlantic City, N.J. His solo demo of the song was recently included on Pearl Jam's annual holiday single for members of its Ten Club fan organization.

In a move that is unprecedented for a band of its stature, Pearl Jam is giving away a free MP3 of first single "World Wide Suicide" via its Web site, simultaneous with its Tuesday (March 8) release to U.S. rock radio outlets. Also expected in the next week is an announcement about Pearl Jam's 2006 touring plans.

Here is the track list for "Pearl Jam":

"Life Wasted"
"World Wide Suicide"
"Comatose"
"Severed Hand"
"Marker in the Sand"
"Parachutes"
"Unemployable"
"Big Wave"
"Gone"
"Wasted Reprise"
"Army Reserve"
"Come Back"
"Inside Job"

It's interesting. Eddie and Maynard sound like they're in the same headspace right now. I'm stoked for both of these albums.

Sounds like a great show. I love MMJ as well. I'd go if they were coming just a little bit closer.

Twan, Maynard sounds far more pissed off. Eddie sounds like he's moving into that Dylan/teacher territory

I thought that Riot Act was one of their better albums. Nice to see the American buying public proving me right. America doesn't support good music anymore.

Yeah Robert I agree Eddie is kind of going a little Dylan, but watching them last night....they rocked. I don't know what the second song was they played but I totally dug it.

I just wish they weren't so into playing arenas.....I hate going to shows that are that big. I have never seen them live though and I feel like it is something I need to add to my repitoire.

I am looking forward to my next NIN show...Summerfest! Yeah!

I felt truly sorry for Lindsay Lohan. It is obvious that she has a serious problem with anorexia. She couldn't even bring herself to eat a fork-full of the brownie desert in the brownie sketch. I thought that was particularly cruel of SNL.

I was very surprised to see that she still had her rack though. Thing is, I do not have a lot of respect for her. she has really bad asthma, and smokes like a chimney. That's just dumb.

She's an interesting/conflicted person, for sure. I vacillate between feeling bad for her anorexia, and wanting to slap the shit out of her for being a fucktard.

Linsay Lohan started out as the cute little kid who did commercials and kids movies. What happened to her was her parents realized she made more money than them and she became the income earner for the family. The roles of parent and child became reversed. How can you tell your child what to do when your not the one taking care of them, you can't..... she's a lost girl.

Soemetimes there are the parents who don't live off their hollywood kids (Ron Howard, Shirley Temple) more times though that's not what happens.
