Just to sort of echo Silas here, even without a daily walk (which is how I lose weight), you can do a lot to get yourself prepped for this event. Work your abs!!! This core muscle group will make the difference between a tired, sore back and carrying weight comfortably. Most people who suffer from "sore back" tend to stoop over and it is because of weak abs.

I lost 20+ lbs over the summer and as soon as Pville was over, I stopped walking and gained it all back. All the ladies in my office have had candy dishes out for the last month because of Halloween and now Thanksgiving. I'm going to have to wear blinders in the office!

If you are really trying to lose weight, don't diet. Eat sensibly, all the food groups in proper amounts, plenty of water, etc. The key to losing weight is exercise, not dieting.

Now if I can only make myself do as I say, not as I do ...
