Those are the choices. At least with a blanket, you can more spoon with a partner on the nights when it is sufficiently cold. Two people under two blankets plus a couple shelter halves or gum blankets will stay sufficiently warm. Tougher to do that with a greatcoat.

General rule is that greatcoats were left behind during the active campaign season. Or left on the trail as Fred mentioned.

Been to Banks. Done that. Looking forward to Piney Woods.
