New person here. In fact, it does allow judges to cheat. For example, Contestant 1 Sally is my favorite contestant but her competition is Contestant 2 Mary, So I score Mary as 4th runner up to ensure Sally wins although I know Mary is better or should at least be 1st runner-up. This happens all the time I have heard several judges say they have marked their ballot this way. Since this is a scholarship pageant it should not be ranked, do we rank people that compete for other scholarhsips? Let the young lady with the highest points win the pageant. Stand on your own merit and don't give the judges too much power to change the outcome and that's exactly what the ranking system does!

Question to new person. What happens to Mary in the earlier rounds of competion? Is your judge ethical then to score Mary correctly and only puts his/her bias into play for the ranking? The type of judge you describe can manipulate the score sheet at any point. The system is subjective beginning to end and we count on the judges to do the job ethically from beginning to end. Until there is an objective score system - which I don't know how that could be with the areas being evaluated - there will always be disagreement with an outcome with or with out the ranking.
