I beg your pardon....in areas such as NJ, NY, radio and TV were born and made, as were the first movies in the USA. Edison was legendary, and Tesla was quite the genius as well. Many stars came from this area. There were many firsts in these states, and other areas of the country developed their specialties in time as well.

Radio hit it big in Newark, NY...TV started and thrived here with live programming for a long time. Yes, people in each area have their own particular accent, but so do those in all parts of the country. (Interestingly, if you travel now and then, and listen to newscasts, it seems wherever you are, there is a generic sound...accentless, but if you listen carefully, sometimes you can notice a hint of an accent.)

Actually, the NJ, NY accent (which by the way seems to be fading along with others as time passes) is the correct one....all the rest are incorrect. (Yes...and I still believe in the tooth fairy, hmm or is it root canal payments.) Now, someone out there is saying his or her accent (or lack of it) is correct. Well, we're all correct...the main thing is teamwork, kindness, and being helpful to one another...and we can learn much from this Flash Gordon from yesteryear...maybe tell your children about this kind of super hero from the past and his friends and adventures. You might be surprised....they may like it....yes, maybe some shoot 'em up stuff, so review before showing, but it would be nice to keep this Flash Gordon with Buster Crabbe and friends going. (Wanna hear accents on an international level? Watch the 1980 movie, Flash Gordon, Savior of the Universe.)

Uhh...as for Commander Rick's remark, he's probably referring to the accent from the guy in FGs Trip to Mars, a 1938 serial...in a section where one of the squadron bad guys in a flying stratosled see Flash and Dr.Zarkov paralyzed from an accidental ray gun hit on the ground...and this grinning guy says...Thair they ah! Seems several of the crew also had a five o'clock shadow, but this nowadays seems popular anyway. Nevertheless, they done good....Hey! never dis Jersey Boys....they're holding their own quite well thank you, and seems NY is still the #1 place to visit.

Hope I haven't offended anyone...apologies if I did....I myself, when I traveled, enjoyed hearing different accents around this great country of ours. Charming, great, memorable conversation resulted, learning, and so much more. As time moves on though, our various accents are fading. Well, at least we have the movies...films of all types to at least recall or keep some charming aspects of life in our memory.
