Here's a tough test with loaded, tricky questions of a diverse nature and mixes FG, BR, movies and related material. Open book necessitates more difficulty. Since we've become quite good at this, it's moreso for fun, brain teasing, and dialog. NOTE: on multiple choice questions, pick what you think, for the MOST PART, does NOT belong in the group series for that question. (It's possible other answers would fit, but Heh, I'm doing the grading.) Answers next week. Enjoy.

ANSWERS TO OFFICER TORCH'S QUIZ, AND COMMENTS

1. b)Zandar>Lab staff member in FGTTM. Others are high echelon minions under the ruler, Ming (or leader Kane in case of Capt. Lasca.)If you selected Lasca, take partial credit-he's from BR; the others are all from FG.
2. e)Zeus, the Greek god. Others are from FG adventures.
3. a)Turan>specifically Capt. Turan, an Arborian from FGCTU. All the others are kings in FG.
4. c)X-M from the movie Rocketship X-M. Note:Ajax was in 1980 FG movie, and Skyflash from Steve Holland TV series.
5. c)Metaluna>name of planet from 50s movie This Island Earth. Others shown from FG/BR.
6. d)Karm>a scientist held prisoner by Ming. All others shown played by Wheeler Oakman. (Micheal Mark played Karm.)
7. c)The Lathe of Heaven>classic sci fi novel, and 2 made for TV movies, one by PBS, a later version by A&E. BUT, all others shown in group had something associated with hidden or underground cities, eventually.
8. a)Rodan>the flying monster (basically a monster movie). The others are movies having notable or some connection with FG.
9.e)2001>only one in group not to have FG type music in it.
10. b)Zuggs>basically humans; all others some form of monster. (Note: in A.R. comic strip, Tigrons had horns, in 1938 serial, the "tigron" had no horn--it seemed to be a regular tiger).
11. d)Transistor. All others were some sort of device in the serials with electrical kind of sounding names. (Note: At the time of FG serial trilogy, there were no transistors.)
12. b)2001. All others in group had something to do with the planet, Mars.
13. There was no communication, and war rocket Ajax was not on the assigned flight path for the day-hence Gen. Kala issued order to open fire.
14.To merge together and turn into a a rock outcrop to foil the giant lizards.
15.Azura-the Witch Queen of the Blue Magic Men, Undina-the Sea Queen, Queen Aura, Fria-Queen of Frigia, to name some, and Sonja's treachery was rewarded by Ming marrying her and crowning her Queen of Mingo and Empress of all Mongo
16.The Foreward scene in FGCTU shows a ship circling what is said to be Mount McKinley where Polarite is being dropped to neutralize Ming's death dust. Paramount Picture's has a mountain for its logo, called "Majestic Mountain" which is said may be based on the Ben Lomond Mountain/Peak near Ogden, Utah. It is said to be the oldest studio logo in continuous use. Check websites.
17.Anthony Warde played Kane in BR and Toran in FGTTM, but he did NOT play The King of the Rockman; hence technically the answer to the question is false. (Trick question)
18. Many of the Filmation ray gun sounds seems (to me) like those heard from the Martian machines in the 1952 version of War of the Worlds. (Subjective opinion)
19 True. After the last event of the tournament of death in the A.R. comic strip, Vultan threatens that Ming should keep his word by proclaiming both Flash and Barin Kings, but Ming indicates he would choose their kingdoms. Flash is awarded Kira, and becomes King of the Cave World, a wild and forbidding place.
20.In the 1979-80 Buck Rogers, there is an episode where "Commander Gordon" comes out of retirement to help. He pilots a craft and shoots down an enemy ship targeting Buck (Gil Gerard). <<<<< Priceless stuff

CORRECTIONS!

--In Answer #10, the "Tigron" without horn, was in the 1936 B.C. Mongo serial (NOT 1938s FGTTM). Tigrons in A.R.s strip had horns.
--In Answer number 19, FG was for awhile called King Flash.

ERROR NOTICE RE AUTUMN QUIZ
An error like this cannot be dismissed, so I will correct, eat crow, and per His Majesty Ming, will battle the octosac for sport, despite my armor and constant worry about rust. May Tao protect me.
In answer #20, Buster Crabbe plays Brigadier Gordon. (Episode was Part 2 of "Planet of the Slave Girls," first aired Sept. 27, 1979. Sorry, didn't quite catch Dr. Huer's quick intro, after repeated playbacks, looked it up, and saw a reference with Commander. Thanks to good friend Turan (from "old board") for tip off. Further checks indicated Brigadier Gordon, not Commander Gordon.
Whoever is interested, a mailing from Checker indicates they'll soon have an FG Vol 6 and 7 repro. Available direct or your favorite book supplier. (Note: I've no affiliation with Checker.) Regards from Officer Torch (possible cousin of Captain Torch).
