Subject: Poll: Ming's "death" in Trip to Mars

Without a doubt, one of the most poignant endings to a movie serial. Who would ever think Tarnak would be the one to betray and kill him in the disintegrating room? Ming wrestles power from Azura and she is killed in the Death Squadron attack by her own pilots. Flash even pointed out to Tarnak that Ming didn't deserve to die a death in that electrical chamber of horrors.

The eye contact Flash and Zarkov exchange when he ( Dr. Zarkov ) first sees the glass beaker standing on the floor by a column, is an excellent way to convey thoughts in a dire emergency. It seemed like Tarnak was at the controls forever, but Zarkov's foot kicked the beaker over and Flash subdued him as fast as a cheetah. You had to feel sorry for Tarnak, in light of that powerful blow Flash delivered--that is what a headache he must have woken up to!

Here's an alternative thought.(Hey! stuff like this always good for lively debate). In '36 serial, let's assume perhaps collusion/conspiracy between high priest and Ming. Bottom line though, Earth was saved, but Ming didn't die.

Let's face it, Ming went into '38 serial (on Mars)and even Azura seemed surprised Ming walked thru fire to shut off a valve. Kind of a hint of his (evil) immortality.

Tarnak's loyalty to Ming seemed a given almost throughout, except for disintegrating room where Ming supposedly died. Guess he did not since he was back on Mongo for '40 CTU..in quite commanding form! So..just maybe some collusion/conspiracy existed earlier between Ming and Tarnak? Bottom line though, earth was saved, but Ming didn't really die!

And..Ming wasn't killed off in '40 serial... he appeared again: in movie, animation, TV shows, etc., for some 70 years; and, he's still around! Bottom line, earth was saved but guess Ming didn't die!

Eye contact...yes, very good way to convey thoughts..and this was well done in FG serials. (Among others, a good observation on Rick's part.) These serials were magical..dunno if chemistry between actors, the writing/story, pace, music, a combo likely. It's special how these serials endured over the decades. Certainly, good prevailing over evil a major factor..Flash and friends in our beloved serials expressed positive values timelessly, in an entertaining manner yet powerful enough way to still move us! Amazing!

The Martians didn't know very much about Ming. Him knowing this made it easy to fake his death, including Tarnak! All they knew is he was from Mongo.
