Subject: For Barin & Torch: The Origin of the Televisor

Could you once more give me insights to this invention Ming had installed in the palace? Love that swirling effect!

The swirling effect is the lead-in to Universal's 1930 two color Technicolor all-star review, "King of Jazz" starring Paul Whiteman and his orchestra. When I first saw "King of Jazz" in New York in 1977 I almost fell out of my seat, instantly recognizing the distinctive swirling from having viewed it in Ming's palace.

Prince Barin's posting has piqued my interest. I too recall some time ago seeing that movie, King of Jazz, perhaps on a PBS or TCM channel, and I was wowed. I recall Paul Whiteman from my early days, and do recall his shows..on early TV. They had a unique, magical flavor...kind of razzle dazzle like if you will with tech stuff moreso than average, or so it seemed. (Those draughts of forgetfulness can distort things over time.)

The King of Jazz, a 1930 musical, had some interesting points...and I vaguely recall some swirling effect. Now I'm fired up and have to do some web surfing or try and buy the movie. I'm finding old Universal movies and others now more readily available, not only on line, but in stores as well! Good for us.

King of Jazz had some interesting points (check IMDb). It was produced by Carl Laemmle, Jr.(familiar name to us) AND the animator was Walter Lantz! I'm sure there are more interesting tidbits. I picked up Howard Hughes Hell Angels recently, remastered...it had fantastic footage, and some two color segments...it's also a 1930 movie, expensively made of course, but still advanced for its time.

Electronics was progressing well in those days, new tubes, circuits, inventions were coming out big time, and might have trickled into homes as appliances were it not for the Depression and WWII. I digress, but, yes...that swirling effect was put to good use, and early!.

Thanks for the memories. Will see what I can muster up.

:-) One hears things in the palace corridors on Mongo. Here is something unbeknowst to many...why... I just heard it recently! Our Emperor Ming can somehow transport himself (by some black magic I gather) to various planets, places, times, etc. You know this from Mongo and and Mars.

Now, it's my understanding His Imperial Majesty Ming, Emperor of the Universe, was on your planet Earth in 1935, a year before the FG Mongo serial. Seems he was in a place called Murania some 20,000 feet below the surface. I don't know what his title was, but he knew Queen Tika, and some rebellious prime minister named..Argo. I think a fellow Rab was also involved.

It's my understanding Ming was involved in '35 (and possibly earlier) in engineering various contraptions, machines, devices of all sorts...AND, that this Argo and Rab were under orders from Ming, their Emperor OF THE UNIVERSE! Seems the televisor, or whatever it was named, was utilized there...Ming was also suspicious of this Gene Autry good guy rancher on the surface. Ming was planning evil, and this Autry was meddling!

Ever notice Ming's interest in science? Well, seems he was keenly interested in electromechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, math...just about all branches of science! And as we can see in the popular FG trilogy, Ming tends to be a hands-on Emperor especially concerning science projects.

Well, seems Ming got Argo..and even Rab to become instigators and start a rebellion to take over, and seems some awesome death ray weapon ran amok, destroying Murania. Of course, Ming escaped...and it's said he took Argo (aka Wheeler Oakman) and Rab (aka Warner Richmond) with him as advisors. He needed them, along with their ideas and notes.

We're told they did scientific and mischievious work behind the scenes on Mongo in 1936, and travelled to Mars with Ming...yes in 1938 Mars, guess....Tarnak and Zandar.

Some story, eh? Best Regards from Officer Torch, and best you not repeat this to Ming, ok?
