Pode ser isso. O Chat é meio (canal) ou apenas gênero.
No caso dos gêneros digitais nem sempre é fácil separar essas duas coisas. Em português podemos fazer a diferença correio eletrônico (meio) e mensagem eletrônica (gênero), mas usamos chat tanto para o canal como para o gênero bate papo eletrônico.
